Getting kids the nutritious meals they need every day.
Meet this week’s Local Hero Steven Marinelli, the Food Service Director for the Milton Town School District.
Marinelli joined the district about 5 years ago, where he spear-headed the town’s free summer meals program. Marinelli also started the Summer Food Service Carnival, which was held two weeks ago. The carnival kicks off the summer meals program.
Local 22 / Local 44 stopped by his kitchen today, where he and his staff serve 600 meals to about 14 sites in the area. Some of the children who enjoyed those meals include the preschoolers at the ABC Academy.
“Before Steve started doing this, we had students who provided their own meals and some kids would come to school with PopTarts for breakfast or the same thing all day because their parents didn’t have the money for the variety,” Lisa LaBelle, the owner and director of the ABC academy in Milton, said.
A hero for getting kids the meals they need.
“When school gets out, we’re their nutritional source for a large amount of the families here in Milton and this just keeps it going that they know there are nutritious meals being served in the community,” Steven MarinelIi said.
His whole family has been involved in the food industry, piquing his interest to work in food services.
