Nine people were transported to the hospital for treatment late Monday after they became trapped by a fire at a Plattsburgh apartment building late Monday.
In a Facebook post, Plattsburgh Fire Chief Scott Lawliss said crews arrived at 42 Adirondack Lane shortly after 10:30 p.m.. They found stairs from the second floor were blocked and people were dropping children from the second story to officers waiting on the ground, he said.
The rescued residents — six adults and three children — were transported to UVM Health Network at Champlain Physicians Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross said it provided emergency aid, including shelter, food and clothing, to 13 people ranging in age from one to 15.
The cause of the fire is still be investigated.
