April 30th is national adopt a shelter pet day!
From dogs and cats, to birds and rabbits, even ferrets and guinea pigs. There are thousands of animals in shelters waiting to find their forever homes.
We spoke with the Humane Society of Chittenden County, who says they have close to 100 animals waiting for adoption.
They just brought in 44 kittens from Florida, who are ready for a new home.
“Adopt don’t shop is what we always say and I think it’s important to always consider adopting. I mean it is a gamble if you’re looking for a certain breed, obviously you can’t really help yourself if you’re looking for that German Shepard or Bull Dog but we have a lot of amazing animals. We have something for everybody,” said Erin Alamed from the Human Society of Chittenden County
Nina is a 5 year old mixed breed who has been with the shelter for a few months now, and is still looking to find her forever home.
If you can’t adopt but are still looking to help, the shelters are always looking for donations of pet supplies and food.
