Barre man admitted for mental-health evaluation after standoff with police

An unnnamed man from Barre is at Central Vermont Medical Center for evaluation after a police standoff Tuesday afternoon.

Barre City Police say they went to check on the man on Pearl Street Extension shortly before 1:30 pm. When they did, they say the man threatened them with a steak knife.

Authorities say he was suffering from mental health issues. He refused to cooperate with police or mental health workers. Montpelier Police were summoned and entered the apartment, taking the man into custody without incident.

No one was hurt.
