Border agents stop ‘suspicious vehicle,’ find 33 lbs of marijuana

U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrested a US citizen with 33 pounds of marijuana near Ogdensburg, New York.

Agents say they observed a “suspicious vehicle” on State Highway 37 on Saturday. They approached the driver at a gas station and noticed a large duffle back in the back seat.  A K-9 team at the scene alerted to the presence of drugs.

The driver was arrested nd turned over to New York State Police.  He faces felony charges of criminal possession of marijuana.

Swanton Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent William Maddocks said agents also seized 58 lbs of marijuana at Ogdensburg Border Patrol on March 21.

“These two events demonstrate the need to stay vigilant to stop illegal activity near our border,” he said.

The Swanton sector is responsible for securing the border between ports of entry in Vermont, New Hampshire and northeastern New York.
