An annual tradition has returned to Brookfield. The Vermont Agency of Transportation announced Friday that the Brookfield floating bridge is now open to traffic. 

The bridge on Route 65 was originally built back in 1820 on top of then-frozen water. 

Over the years the bridge has been restored multiple times.

The bridge is one of two floating bridges in the country. It is the only one east of the Mississippi River and the only one made of wood.
