The Browns River All-Star team is headed to Rhode Island for the Little League World Series Eastern Regional Tournament for 8-to-10-year-olds.
Browns River beat South Burlington 15-12 on Saturday to advance. They’ll begin play in Cranston, Rhode Island, later this week.
Coach Jon St. Amour says he looks at the 14-member team as underdogs in the tournament.
“We went 9 and 0 in two tournaments,” he said. “Nobody beat us. We’ve kind of been the underdog all along but still we’re wiping the floor with everybody.”
The team has created a gofundme page and have raised almost $4,000 to help pay for meals and accommodations in Cranston.
“I’m really excited that me and my team get to go to Rhode Island and it was just amazing that we went 9 and 0 in the two tournaments,” said second baseman Owen Labor.
On Wednesday, the Jericho Center Country Store also helped the team raise money, donating $1 from every creemee and sub sold.
“I’d like to thank all of the people that have been donating to us today, they’ve been really generous,” Labor said.
One player is excited to take a stab at another big win.
I want to go there and try to win against Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, all those other teams in New England,” said center fielder Connor Brisbin.
