Burlington welcomes Water Works Park to northern waterfront

Local News

BURLINGTON, Vt. – As summer weather arrives in the Queen City, residents will have a new park to enjoy.

Water Works Park opened on Thursday, and features ample green space along with a new boardwalk.

Mayor Miro Weinberger made it official with a ribbon cutting ceremony, and he called the park a welcome addition to the city’s waterfront.

“Right in the heart of the reborn northern waterfront, we now have this great public space where people can just enjoy the lake,” Mayor Weinberger said. “I think it’s a really nice addition, it’s different than any other park we have.”

Located near the Community Sailing Center, the Skatepark and the Burlington Harbor Marina, the park was formerly a small parking lot. It was built as part of the public-private partnership between the city and the marina.

Along with the wood boardwalk, the park has walking paths, garden beds with native trees and shrubs, new LED lighting and nine benches.

Planning for the park began in early 2014, when the city announced six projects meant to strengthen the waterfront.
