Burlington Electric urges residents to reduce energy usage

Local News

To conserve energy during this hot, humid weather, the Burlington Electric Department is encouraging residents to reduce their energy use.

It’s part of the department’s Defeat the Peak program. Burlington Electric says the New England region hits peak demand for electricity during the summer and part of the costs as a utility is determined by how much energy the community uses during the summer peak.

Residents are asked to turn off air conditioners between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, and to wait until 9 p.m. or later to use washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers and other appliances.

The department is also encouraging customers to turn off non-essential lights until 9 p.m. or later.
