The Burlington International Airport celebrate the start of a new service Saturday.
“With our great partner United, non-stop flights to Denver from BTV,” said Nic Longo, Deputy Director of Aviation.
The United Airlines flight will run between the two cities every Saturday and Sunday, arriving in Burlington at 1:30 p.m. and departing for Denver at 3:30. Director of Aviation, Gene Richards, said the direct flight aims to make traveling out West easy.
“So easy, so convenient,” said Gene Richards, Director of Aviation. “You think in 3 hours you’re in Denver, or you’re in Denver and you’re in Burlington in 3 hours.”
A water cannon salute marked the arrival of the first flight into Burlington. Passengers were cheered on by United staff as they got off the plane, most unaware they were on the inaugural flight.
“It was a surprise for all of us,” said Clinton Cave.
“We saw the fire truck from the window and I was like ‘what’s going on’? said Karyn Cave. “We saw the balloons and all the prizes, people were really excited, so it gave us a pretty big clue that it was a big deal.”
Airport officials said the service will connect two destinations with similar demographics.
“The mountains and the outdoor industry is very impactful to the community life in Denver but also in Burlington as well,” Longo said.
Frontier Airlines also offers service to Denver on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
