The Community Sailing Center is opening its doors to the public.
On Friday, organizers kicked off the opening weekend with a christening by smashing a bottle of champagne on the side of the building.
The sailing programs new home, which for many years ran out of the neighboring Moran building, includes classrooms for yearlong learning, indoor bathrooms and the space to continue to promote the community use of Lake Champlain.
"I think we can officially say the northern waterfront is officially reborn, and it is reborn in a way that I think succeeds many of the hopes and dreams that the community has had for this part of the waterfront for a long time,” said Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger.
The project took nearly 2 years to complete and cost around $5.7 million.
