An apartment in Winooski was severely damaged when a car crashed into it following a police pursuit early Sunday morning.
Two people were injured. The occupant of the apartment was transported to the hospital and later released. The driver suffered a possible head injury, Colchester police said.
Police say they were attempting a traffic stop on Route 7 shortly after 1 am. The driver turned onto Tigan Street and led officers on a short chase until the driver lost control of the car and crashed into 39 Weaver Street.
The driver fled the scene and was soon arrested near the residence.
“A big boom, I felt it more than I heard it.” said Ryan Merchant, who was home when it happened. “My next door neighbor was trapped inside his bedroom and the fire department had to bring him out through a hole in the wall.”
Police said the car was determined to have been stolen in Richmond.
