PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The North Country fought back against cancer on Friday at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Plattsburgh.
Held at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, this year’s relay had 51 teams and raised over $65,000.
Bonnie Berry, who will be a 25-year breast cancer survivor in August, had a unique way of celebrating – she’s a member of the “Boobie Sisters,” and performed a self-composed rap song at the relay.
“You know, life handed us a boobie prize, and we try to make the best of that boobie prize,” Berry said. “The Boobie Sisters come always, every year, and we do a couple of songs that hopefully get everyone started.”
Joan Sterling, Community Development Manager for the American Cancer Society, said the relay is an occasion of celebration, remembrance and hope.
“The Relay for Life is an event that raises awareness about the American Cancer Society and all the things we do, and we honor survivors and remember those that we’ve lost,” Sterling said.
