Chainsaws, generator stolen from Green Mountain Club

Local News

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment, including eight chainsaws, has been stolen from the Green Mountain Club in Waterbury Center.

The alleged theft occurred late September 19 or early September 20, said Executive Director Mike DeBonis,

“I was absolutely shocked, it’s never happened before,” he said.

DeBonis said two sheds were broken into, their padlocks cut off.

Eight chainsaws and two portable generators — equipment crucial to the day-to-day operation of the Long Trail-protection group — were stolen.

“We still have a few projects on the docket. We are doing some privy projects and there is some trail work out, building a woodshed,” he said.

The organization does have insurance that will cover part of the losses and help buy new equipment. The community has been supportive, lending equipment and making donations.
