An economic boom is hitting New York, and tourism officials in the North Country are loving the increase in tourism.

“From what we see both at the state level and when you break it down just to Clinton County in the North Country region, we’re breaking records from previous years,” said Kristy Kennedy of the North Country Chamber of Commerce,

Donovan King of Montreal spent his Thursday inner tubing at the Ausable Chasm with a few international guests.

“I’ve brought my nieces and nephew here today,” King said. “They’re on a holiday from Ireland for about a month so we thought, lets head down to the Adirondacks and visit Ausable Chasm

Tourism generated $8.5 billion in state and local taxes in Clinton County, officials say, and local tax revenue is up 7 percent.

“I think a lot of that has to do with not only our Canadian visitors but the growth in the destination and the new attractions that are popping up and the synergies and teamwork,” said Kennedy.

The North Country Chamber of Commerce say they expect the numbers to continue to grow throughout 2018.
