For those people who drive east on Route 2 out of Montpelier, you might have noticed a large gray building sitting high above the Winooski River.

Located off of Barre Street in Montpelier you will find a sign for Caledonia Spirits, they are widely known for their ‘Barr Hill’ products.

“It looks a lot different. They’re really going fast,” said Ryan Christensen, President & Head Distiller at Caledonia Spirits.

He is still shocked when he steps inside of his new 27,000 square foot facility. Currently, his team works out multiple buildings in Hardwick which combined add up to 13,000 square feet.

Christensen was able to give Local 22/44 News an exclusive first look at the facility, showing off the nearly 9,000 square foot distilling room, an area for research & development of new products, and much more.

When you ‘belly up’ to the cocktail bar at the entrance to the facility, you will also see a bit of Vermont history… hint it comes from Barre.

“This 32-foot bar will be made from Barre granite,” said Christensen.

Construction workers were hard at work on Wednesday, now Christensen says, it’s onto the final touches.

He tells us, the target completion date is for late May of this year.

Once the $10-million project is completed every single employee will be able to work under one roof. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the grand opening!
