Two covered bridges in Vermont have been damaged by vehicles within a day of each other, forcing the two structures to be closed for repairs.
The Lincoln Covered Bridge in West Woodstock has been closed after a truck hauling a trailer damaged the interior of the structure Wednesday, police said. The day after, a delivery truck damaged a covered bridge in Lyndon.
In Woodstock, the trailer carrying equipment exceeded the historic bridge’s height limits and damaged the interior of the structure, the Valley News reported .
The driver pulled over immediately afterward, said Woodstock Police Sgt. Joe Swanson.
The bridge must be repaired and could be closed for a few months, he added.
Another covered bridge in Lyndon was badly damaged earlier this week when a truck delivering produce plowed through despite being too tall, taking out support beams and rendering it impassable.
