Dozens of people hit the ice Saturday at Cairns Arena in South Burlington for the Howard Center Curling Competition.

More than 30 teams participated in various curling tournaments throughout the day. Members of the Green Mountain Curling Club were on hand to help with instruction.

It was all to benefit the Howard Center which serves the mental health of Vermonters. The event celebrated its 10th year, but it’s the first year the South Burlington Rotary Club jumped on board as organizers.

“It was a wonderful organization doing wonderful things for a lot of people who just need a hand,” said George Donovan. “The rotary was all over that.”

“We teach people,” said Mike Sitko, of the Green Mountain Curling Club. “They don’t need much, shoes and just a will to try.”

The Howard Center is Vermont’s largest provider of mental health, substance use, and developmental services.
