WILLISTON, Vt. – A driver has been taken into custody after crashing into a telephone pole on South Brownell Road in Williston with four passengers in the car, including a child.
The crash, which left the vehicle engulfed in flames, happened around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Sgt. Brian Claffy of the Williston Police Department said the driver could be facing multiple charges including driving under the influence.
“There were five people in the car, two were still on scene, three fled on foot,” Sgt. Claffy said. “One of the three happened to be a young child as well, with their parents. We believe the driver may be under the influence.”
Claffy said there were only minor injuries. He did not release the name of the driver taken into custody.
South Brownell Road has since been reopened.
