Fire damages Vermont Railway building, believed to be accidental

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Firefighters say a Thursday afternoon fire to a road salt warehouse building at Vermont Railway, is believed to be accidental.

Crews responded just before 2:30 pm, to Lavalley Lane in Burlington.  Smoke could be seen across the downtown area.

According to the fire department, the fire was under control within 15 minutes, and extinguished within a half hour.  No was inside at the time.  Firefighters stayed on scene a bit longer to ventilate the building.

No one was inside the building at the time, there were no reports of injuries.

The property did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system.

Damage is estimated to be around $15,000.  The Fire Marshal’s Office will look into the cause, but right now it appears to be electrical.
