Five hikers, ages 60 to 75, were found Sunday after becoming lost in a densely wooded area in North Troy.
Police say the hikers — John Boutin and Mary Bombard of Fairlee; Linda Boutin of West Fairlee; Kathleen Herrington of Montpelier; and Elizabeth Boutin of Vaschon, Wa — began their hike at the Journey’s End trail head about 10 am Sunday.
Vermont State Police say they received a call from a concerned friend at around 8:30 p.m. who reported the five did not show up at the pickup point at the Long trail crossing near Route 105 in Richford.
One of the hikers was eventually able to call 911 with a general location. Based off of that information, state police was able to patrol the area and use a siren, giving the hikers a safe direction to travel.
With help from the North Troy Fire Department, police were able to locate the hikers less than a mile southwest of the Journey’s End Rd/North Jay Rd. intersection.
None of the hikers were injured or required medical attention.
