“Hadestown,” the Broadway musical by Vermont singer-songwiter Anais Mitchell, took home eight Tony Awards, including best musical, Sunday in New York City.
“Hadestown” began more than a decade ago as a community theater project. The musical is part Greek Tragedy and part reflection of the American Dream with a political twist.
Mittchell won the Tony for best score and Rachel Chavkin won the award for best director. Andre De Shields won for playing the Greek god Hermes, the musical’s narrator.
