Human remains found floating in Lake Champlain in July are those of a Winooski man who was the chief suspect in the killing of a Winooski woman almost four years ago, Colchester police said Tuesday.
Using DNA and other identifying markings, investigators were able to identify the remains as those of Keith D. Gaston, 36, of Winooski. His skeletal remains were recovered from Lake Champlain, near Colchester Point Road, on July 16, 2023.
Gaston was seen on surveillance video in November 2019 jumping into the Winooski River. A day later, Gaston’s fiance was found dead in her Winooski apartment.
Gaston likely drowned, police said.
