Many federal employees are struggling to feed their families and that includes their furry friends.
On Friday, Humane Society of Chittenden County will begin distributing free food for pets of furloughed workers. Food will be available for dogs, cats and small animals.
Diana Hill, development director at the Humane Society, says they are also hoping to raise money to help purchase large amounts of food to support the effort.
“Federal employees aren’t just taking a hit themselves, but it could also affect their pets,” Hill said. “We want to make sure they can always feed them, especially when it’s due to no fault of their own.”
