Kids in Peru raising money to help loved one fight cancer

Local News

Two fourth-graders-to-be in Peru, New York are putting themselves to work this summer.

Sadie Morse and Ava Hamborski are selling red ‘Fight For Steve’ bracelets to raise money for Sadie’s stepfather. Steve is currently in New York City getting treatment for multiple myeloma, an incurable form of cancer that typically occurs in bone marrow.

The money from the bracelet sales will help pay for his trips to the Big Apple for future treatments…and at least one customer has been willing to pay a lot more than the asking price.

“So the guy pulls up, and he’s like, ‘how much are the bracelets?’,” Sadie said. “We said, ‘$3’. He’s like, ‘OK, I’ll take one’, so we give him a bracelet and he gives us $50 and he says, ‘you guys can keep it’.”

Sadie and Ava have sold dozens of bracelets so far, maybe even as many as 100…so if you see them in Peru and you can spare $3, you can help them fight for Steve.
