Loon, the lost dog, returns home

Local News

Loon the lost pup has finally been returned to her honeymooning owners!

Community members, friends and family were out searching all day Wednesday with no luck on capturing the lost Bernese Mountain dog.

Deborah Towne, a Jericho resident, decided to set out on a search of her own late Thursday evening, alongside her own Bernese Mountain dog, Simba.

With a little bit of bribery and quick thinking, Towne was able to scoop up the dog.

“Loon came out to her dog and she had a whole bunch of pepperonis and slowly made a trail over to her car and put some in the car. Loon’s feet got up on the car, she kind of just shoved her in, and closed the door and got in contact with some of our friends to pick her up,” said Loon’s owner Alyssa Deutsch

Alyssa and her husband, Ben Deutsch, were out of the country on their honeymoon when Loon went missing. They say they can’t thank the Jericho community enough for lending a helping hand with the search.

“It just goes to show the power of social media, the power of community,” Ben said. “You know… it’s really something to say that all of these people went out of the their…just goodness of their heart without even knowing us. Reaching out, spreading the word and searching for Loon bear for two days and doing everything they could to bring her home while we were kind of stuck powerless in another country. So…we can’t thank Vermont enough.”
