Man who escaped Hoosick Falls police custody found dead

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police say the man who escaped from Hoosick Falls Police custody last Wednesday has been found dead in Athol, Massachusetts.

Justin Faatz, 34, escaped from the Hoosick Falls Police Department on March 27 around 5:30 pm.

He was facing charges of burglary and failure to appear after being extradited to New York from Vermont.

Police say on Tuesday they responded to a call to check on the welfare of a person at an apartment and discovered the body of Faatz.

It appears that Faatz died of a drug overdose.

An autopsy is scheduled for a later date.

Police launched an extensive manhunt for Faatz after his dissapearance, including K9 units and multiple police agencies from New York and Vermont.
