Petting zoo grain feeders found smashed, missing

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Three grain feeders in the petting zoo at Sam Mazza’s Family Farm were found heavily damaged and, in one case, missing on Thursday morning.

Gary Bombard, an owner and project manager at the farm, believes someone trespassed sometime Wednesday night and took roughly $60 in quarters from the feeders.

“They didn’t get a lot of money, they weren’t going to get rich off this,” Bombard said. “They ruined three $100 grain feeders so we need to replace those.”

Thankfully, no animals were harmed during the potential theft, and Bombard said the farm reached out to Colchester Police about the incident.

“We’re just sad that things like this happen,” Bombard said.

Sam Mazza’s Family Farm has been operating since 1935. In 1969, they moved to their current location on Lavigne Road.
