Plattsburgh motorcyclist killed when pickup runs red light

A 72-year-old Plattsburgh was killed Sunday morning when a pickup truck ran a stop light and crashed into his motorcycle in Chesterfield, Essex County.

Richard L. Mitchell, 72, was riding south on a Route 9 when a pickup driven by Mark E. Steeves of Colchester, Connecticut, failed to stop at a red light and drove through the intersection at Route 22 in Chesterfield.

Steeves struck Mitchell and ejected him from his 2003 Harley-Davidson. 

An autopsy will be performed Monday at the University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physician’s Hospital in Plattsburgh

Steeves, 50, and his passenger, Michelle L. Steeves, 48, were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
