Those in and around Plattsburgh city government are mourning the loss of Becky Kasper, a former council member who died suddenyl in her home. .
Mayor Colin Read informed city officials of Kasper’s passing in an email Wednesday.
“We all recollect and hold dearly the passion she held for her city and constituents. She leaves a lasting impact on our community and will be missed by so many who love her for her warmth, compassion, and caring for all creatures, great and small,” Read wrote. “Our heart goes out to her family in this time of grief.”
Reports indicate Kasper, who was 56, served about 4 years on the common council, retiring in February of 2018.
In a statement, Town of Plattsburgh Supervisor Michael Cashman said Kasper’s life “was a life of service to others.”
“The sudden passing of Becky is tragic,” Cashman said. “It was my good fortune to work with her during my time at SUNY Plattsburgh and as colleague in local government. She was a dynamic educator and passionate public servant. No platitudes will sooth the pain left behind with her absence. Those that knew her well will dearly hold onto memories. Many have been touched by her hand and heart in ways they will never know.”
