Two people are scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges related to an alleged carjacking in South Burlington.

Joseph Rougier, 41, and Starr Lafountaine, 37, both of Burlington, will be charged with assault, robbery and carrying a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.

Police say the pair flagged down a vehicle near White Street and Airport Drive shortly after 9:30 am Thursday. After Rougier allegedly brandished a gun, the victim turned over the vehicle and he and Lafountaine drove off.

They abandoned the vehicle on Williston Road near Dorset Street and attempted to evade officers on foot.

Police said they evacuated a nearby business while they apprehended the suspects, who officers said appeared to be on stimulants. Rougier, who had a handgun in his wauistband, resisted arrest, asking officers to shoot him, police said. He was eventually subdued with the help of a Taser.

No injuries were reported.
