Police: Roman Diocese of Burlington safe after suspicious package investigation

Local News

Police say there is no threat after a suspicious package investigation today in South Burlington.

Bomb squads from South Burlington and Vermont State Police were called to investigate a suspicious package found outside at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington building;

Police said roughly 20 people had been evacuated and moved across the street.

South Burlington Police Chief Shawn Burke says a man went into the building making incoherent statements before leaving the package, which ended up being a notebook.

Police believe some sort of mental health crisis was at play and there was no malice towards the Diocese.
