South Burlington police say a man faces charges after antagonizing a police K-9 before darting into rush-hour traffic on Shelburne Road.

Officers say they were called to 1200 Shelburne Road just after 3:30 pm Wednesday by property owners seeking to have the man, identified as Michael Barber, removed.

After police escorted Barber, 49, from the premises, they say he began barking at Rush, a K9 who was inside a South Burlington police cruiser.

After refusing police commands to cease harassing the dog, which began reacting inside the cruiser, police say Barber ran into traffic. Police say he needed to be restrained during the arrest.

Barber, who police say is homeless, has been cited for animal cruelty and disorderly conduct.
