Police seeking man in connection to Middlesex arson case

Local News

Police have released surveillance photos of a man they believe is connected to a suspicious house fire in Middlesex two weeks ago.

The fire at 16 Garand Hill was reported just before 10 am July 16. Firefighters arrived to find the homeowner, Cynthia Liepmann, in her garage extinguishing the flames with a rake.

Liepmann told police she heard noises in the garage, and when she investigated, found that someone had spread an accelerant on the floor and other items in the garage and lit them on fire.

Police later issued a description of a man seen walking along Terrace Street and East Hill Road before the fire, and again a short time later as firefighters were responding to the alarm.

Police say the man, described as being in his late teens to early twenties, wearing dark pants and shirt and a baseball hat, accepted a ride from a motorist and was dropped off on State Street in Montpelier, near Christ Episcopal Church, between 10 and 10:30 am.

No one was injured in the fire and damage was minor.
