Police say speed may have been a factor in the single-car  crash that killed a 15-year-old passenger in Westminster on Saturday.

Vincenzo Ruggerio, age 15, Saxtons River, was killed when the 16-year-old driver lost control while traveling east on Morse Brook Road and crashed into at least three trees.

Police say the car suffered “massive crush damage” of the real passenger area of the vehicle. Ruggerio, who was wearing a selt belt in the middle seat, suffered a severe head injury.

A second teenager, identified as Dominic Bates, 15, of Chester, and driver, who was not identified, suffered minor injuries.

Police said the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, but said speed appears to have been a factor.
