Search to continue for missing kayaker; companion found dead after capsizing

Local News

The search for a 73-year-old man missing after his kayak capsized during rough weather on Lake Champlain was postponed Tuesday night, hours after the body of his female companion was found dead.

Celine Teeson, 73, was pulled from the lake just after 4:30 pm and transported to UVM Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Police say the two kayakers capsized at the end of Camp Edgewater, not far from Thayer Beach, around the time a lightning storm passed through the area.

“It is a pretty well-protected cove,” said Colchester Police Chief Doug Allen on Tuesday. “The water is relatively shallow. We have divers that are doing basically surface checks at this point as well as inflatable boats putting sonar in the water.”

This is a developing story and will be updated when new information is available.
