The Rutland woman accused her of cutting the wrist of her 3-year-old child has pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempted second-degree murder.

Kristie Buzzeo, 36, was arrested Monday after her release from a psychiatric hospital. Police say on April 23, a distraught Buzzeo cut her own and her child’s wrists while barricaded in the bathroom of her first-floor apartment.

When officers failed to communicate with Buzzeo, they forced their way into the room. Police say she may have been hallucinating at the time.

The child was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center for surgery on what police described as serious injuries. The child is in the custody of the Vermont Department for Children and Families.

Buzzeo also pleaded not guilty Tuesday to aggravated domestic assault, domestic assault and cruelty to a child. A message was left with her attorney.

Buzzeo is being held without bail.
