Voters in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, leaned Democratic in presidential elections until 2016, when President Donald Trump took 49.6 percent of the vote to Hillary Clinton’s 45.8.
The county’s Republican shift was evident at Monday’s town hall in Bethlehem, hosted by FOX News: As Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders made his pitch, a crowd of Trump voters rallied outside.
One voter in the audience, who identified herself as a Democrat, said, “I thought he did a great job explaining the positions he has. The forum that he was given, he was able to really dig deep. The questions the audience were really great.
“I don’t think I learned anything new or persuaded me. It was just great to hear him counter-punch a little bit, and I thought he did a great job.”
This is a big county in Pennsylvania that a Democratic nominee needs heading into the 2020 election.
