October is National Fire Prevention Month, a good time to become aware of fire safety and prevention.
Local 22 & Local 44’s Spencer Thomas showed us a day in the life in of a firefighter by taking part in a series of safety demonstrations with the Barre City Fire Department.
From suiting up in 75 pounds of head-to-toe protective gear, to engaging in search and rescue methods, these first responders explained the importance of preparation.
“If you train that way, you perform that way. Teaching our men the right-hand search and the left-hand search over and over, it becomes second knowledge. So when they do come to an actual fire, they’re ready,” said Lt. Brian Farnham.
