A report of a suspicious package delivered to the Franklin County Superior Court in St. Albans on Wednesday forced a short evacuation of the courthouse and a nearby child care facility.
Police say the package, addressed to an employee of the court, arrived at about 11:20 a.m. After the employee informed court officials he had not ordered any merchandise and was not expecting a delivery, the package was scanned and its contents were deemed suspicious.
Court officials evacuated the building, located at 17 Church Street, and notified police. Children at a nearby childcare facility were relocated.
Officers and firefighters were able to determine the package was a large battery power supply. The all-clear was announced around noon and business resumed as usual.
