The North Country is mourning the loss of St. Lawrence county clerk, Mary Lou Rupp.

She died Wednesday, after a brave fight with breast cancer.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, Rupp was diagnosed in 2006, six years before becoming county clerk.  She wrote last year, that her cancer had spread.

In a statement Rep. Elise Stefanik said in part, “Mary Lou was a committed and tireless advocate for our veterans and for the importance of life-saving organ donations, she will be remembered as a selfless leader and servant to others.”

“I will miss her cheerful manner, her tireless work ethic and the example she set for all who chose a life of public service,” State Sen. Patricia Ritchie said, who served as St. Lawrence County Clerk prior to Rupp.

Rupp leaves behind her husband, two daughters, and grandchildren.
