Train collides with tractor, killing elderly Vermont man

Vermont State Police say an elderly Fairlee man died after the tractor he was driving was hit by a train.

It happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers say they were notified by an employee of Vermont Rail System that a train hit a small John Deere tractor that was on the tracks near the Hodges Farm in Fairlee.

Lloyd Raymond, 88, died at the scene. Troopers say it appears Raymond was plowing and clearing snow from a private driveway and moving snow across the tracks when he was hit.

Raymond’s death is being investigated by the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

the Vermont Rail System and the Federal Rail Safety Administration are investigating the circumstances of the crash. 

Police say no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
