The Heineberg Community Senior Center on Tuesday celebrated more than two dozen people who’ve made it to age 90.

Ranging in age from 90 to 104, 25 people were treated to dinner, desert and a show at the center’s 9th Annual 90 Plus Birthday Party

Beth Hammond, the executive director of the center, says celebrations like this help foster healthy aging and overall wellbeing.

“Events like this bring together participants who haven’t seen each other for a while or maybe come every day and to just carry on the comradery and the friendships and over all support for one another,” said Hammond.

And the celebrations are likelier to get bigger. According to the US Census Bureau, the population of persons aged 90-and-older in the US will grow from 1.9 million in 2010 to more than 7.6 million over the next 40 years.
