Police in Hartford, Vermont, say a 1-year-old girl is in critical condition at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center after an incident in the White River.

When police arrived shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, citizens were performing CPR on the child near the Quechee-West Hartford Road Bridge in West Hartford.

Life support continued as the child was transported the hospital.

Police say it appears the child fell into the river accidentally. The incident is under investigation.

The incident occurred two days after a 4-year-old boy was found unresponsive at the bottom of a pool at a Montpelier home.
