State troopers will be out in force on Vermont roadways during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend ensuring motorists are wearing their seat belts.
This week’s operation is part of the national “Buckle Up – Every Trip, Every Time” campaign.
It is also part of the Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort, known as operation CARE, in which police agencies across the country work to reduce highway fatalities, particularly during national holidays when more people are on the road.
The campaign is designed to help make Vermont roads safer during the busy travel period.
State Police Lt. John Flannigan says Vermont has a seat-belt compliance rate of about 90 percent, but 69 percent of those who die in traffic crashes are not wearing seat belts.
