Vermont State Police say the owner of Paul’s Whistle Stop in Barnet has died, after his vehicle crashed into the gas pumps Wednesday morning.

According to the Assistant Medical Examiner, Paul Keenan, 77 of Ryegate, experienced a significant medical issue.

Witnesses say they saw Keenan go off Route 5 into a fence and hit an embankment.  That launched his vehicle in the air approximately 25 feet before coming down on the gas pumps.

The gas pumps were destroyed, and the impact damaged the front end of Keenan’s 2012 Chevrolet Truck.

Police believe Keenan was on his way to work to open for the day.
