Vermont Teddy Bear launched a special new bear Saturday morning called the “Love your Heart Bear”.
It’s part of a collaboration with the American Heart Association. They teddy bear features an embroidered scar down the chest of the bear, representing cardiac procedures.
The American Heart Association says every 1 in 100 children are born with heart defects. Saturday, every “Heart Hero” kid got to take home a bear with a feature that many of them share.
“Just because they have a heart defect or a zip line or a scar on their chest doesn’t mean they can’t do things other kids do,” said Kathryn Towle, a volunteer with the American Heart Association. “Some of these kids still have more surgeries ahead of them and they can bring that special bear to the hospital with them to comfort them while they’re there.”
For every heart bear sold, 20% of the proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.
