State transportation officials say reconstruction of the historic drawbridge that connects Grand Isle and North Hero is running ahead of schedule.
On Monday, two cranes were assembled to start installing the support system for the bridge on US 2. The goal is to have two-lane, two-way traffic back by August 15th, said Department of Transportation engineer Greg Wilcox.
“You know we’re a couple weeks in and things have gone great they’re on schedule, maybe slightly ahead,” he said. “They’ve had great effort, they’re working 6 days a week, 6 to 6, sometimes later and so far the traffic has been great and we’re not really getting any complaints.”
