Weather: Snow ends, cold and wind take over (1/9/2019)

Local News
Planner for Thursday January 10 2019

Most of it has ended but Wednesday night, snow showers will continue along western slopes and over the higher terrain. Expect another dusting to 3″, in valleys and another 2-5+” in the mountains, NEK & western slopes. The higher end of the valley range will be found in the northern Champlain Valley. All other valley locations get a dusting to an inch at the most. Thursday, snow ends while the sun is up in valleys and gradually ends after dark in the mountains. While all that is going on, temperatures will fall during the day Thursday. We’ll start in the 20s in the morning and end up in the teens by dinner with a wind chill around 0°.

Thursday night, cold and wind continue. Lows Friday morning will be on either side of 0° but the wind won’t let it feel that ‘warm’. Strong northwest winds near 10-20mph with put wind chills in the teens and 20s below 0°! That’s the type of cold where frostbite can set in within minutes. Friday afternoon, expect a mix of sun and clouds and lighter winds but it stays cold. Highs will struggle to get above 10°. Friday night, the wind keeps getting weaker and lows crash. We’re waking up with actual air temps around -10 to 0°. It’ll be colder in the mountains! Over the weekend, it’ll be pretty quiet but still cold. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be on either side of 10° with lows on either side of 0°. You may have heard about a storm approaching the northeast, that will stay well to our south and south of Foxboro. That means sunny weather for us and the Patriots when they play the Chargers. I’d have preferred a big snow storm for them to play in but it will be cold, highs at Gillette will be in the 20s.

Stay warm and drive safe!
