Weather: Spring storm brings a mess of rain & snow (3/20/2019)

Local News
Winter Storm Watch March 21 - 23 2019

Wednesday turned out to be a peach of a day! We had lots of sun and highs in the 40s & 50s. Spring began at 5:58pm, it couldn’t have started any better. Quiet weather under increasing clouds will continue Wednesday night. Southerly winds will be going at 5-10mph. The wind and clouds will keep temperatures up, we’ll only drop into the upper 20s & low to mid 30s.

We’re getting a much better handle on the mess that’s coming to end this week and start the weekend. Thursday, we’ll start the day dry but cloudy. Light mountain snow and light valley rain will begin by early afternoon and continue off and on through the evening drive. I don’t see that precip causing any commute headaches, highs will be in the middle & upper 40s. Light rain and snow continue Thursday night but becomes more widespread and heavier on Friday. Roads will be wet or slushy during the morning commute, temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s. After sunrise, it’ll be mainly rain below 2000′ while snow continues from there to the mountain tops. Valley highs will jump well into the 40s. Friday night, cold air spills in and we switch rain to snow in all locations. This is when the worst of the storm will be and when most snow will accumulate. Snow becomes more showery Saturday morning before ending Saturday afternoon. Snow amounts will vary greatly with elevation. By Saturday afternoon, we’re thinking 6-12″ for the mountains above 1000′. Most valleys end up with 2-6″, the higher amounts will be found in the northern Champlain Valley. The lower amounts will be in the Upper Valley. Meanwhile, Saturday afternoon will be chilly with gusts around 30-40mph and temperatures only in the low 30s.

All of that said, Sunday will be approximately one million times better. Expect a good amount of sunshine with highs well into the 40s.

I hope you’re having a great week!
